3 Days 2 Nights Lake Bogoria Lake Baringo Safari.
The two lakes are found in Baringo County in the Rift valley of Kenya. The lakes are approximately 240 km from Nairobi being a 4 hours 40 minutes’ drive from Nairobi. The lakes are one of the less visited destinations yet have a lot of scenic beauty and beautiful topography. It’s one of the best destinations away from the crowded parks and reserves and for great adventure away from busy towns.
Lake Bogoria is located in Lake Bogoria National Park. It is an alkaline lake since as it doesn’t have an outlet. It is geothermal active on the western side with over 120 hot geysers with temperatures of 94 degree Celsius enough to boil an egg. It is referred to as a ‘healing place’ with about 135 species of birds and the greatest population of the lesser flamingos.
Lake Baringo is a fresh water lake with water in let but has no particular as it’s believed water seeps through the underground rocks within it. The lake is well known for the great population of crocodiles and hippos swimming in the lake. The lake has small islands called Ol Kokwe which gives you a great view of the lake as well as the best spot for bird watching. Activities that take place at the lake Baringo National Reserve are fishing, bird watching, skiing surfing and wildlife watching.
Day 1: Nairobi - Lake Bogoria national park.
Depart from your hotel in Nairobi in the morning after breakfast for Lake Bogoria. On the way enjoy the beautiful serenity of the Great Rift Valley. Along the way have great view of the beautiful and hills from afar. You shall notice the many beehives up the trees along the way kept by the local people for bee farming. Arrive at Lake Bogoria national reserve after approximately 6 hours’ drive from Nairobi. Take lunch at the hotel; in the afternoon proceed with excursion at the park. The reserve hosts the lesser flamingo birds giving the better part of the lake look pinky. The lake is geothermal active hence the hot springs and geysers along its shore. Animals at the park are impalas, gazelles, dik-diks among others. In the evening depart for Lake Baringo; check in at the camping site for dinner and relaxing.
Day 2: Lake Baringo national park full day.
In the morning after breakfast take a day tour to Lake Baringo. Explore the great number of crocodiles and hippos along the lake. Since it is a fresh lake, the lesser flamingos are not present at the lake. Participate in fishing as it has 7 types of fish fishes. For fishing The Lake is well known for bird viewing as it hosts great number of bird species with great no of flamingos. On the safari encounter with zebras, grant giraffes and the kudu. The bushy environment the surrounding environment hosts the animals and is a great site for adventure.
In the evening take diner at the campsite and stay for the overnight.
Day 3: Lake Baringo National Park to Nairobi.
Take an early morning safari as you watch the sunrise. After the safari, take breakfast, check out of the campsite and leave for Nairobi. You will be taken back to your hotel.
