10-Days Nairobi Amboseli Tsavo Lake Naivasha & Masai Mara Safari
A wonderful safari through Southern Kenya, with game drives in Amboseli, Tsavo and the Masai Mara. Enjoy the thrill of being up close to elephants in Amboseli with its’ amazing vistas with Kilimanjaro dominating the skyline; experience the expansive wilderness of Tsavo; take a boat safari on Lake Naivasha, and track down all the Big Five in the Masai Mara! You’ll also spend a day sightseeing in Nairobi, including a visit to the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage
Day 1: Nairobi - Amboseli
Depart Nairobi and travel to Amboseli (5 hours), a fantastic park that borders Tanzania. The park is a mixture of wetlands and dry savannahs and is a photographers' paradise with the backdrop of the imposing Mount Kilimanjaro and abundant wildlife including herds of elephants, big cats and lots of bird life - it really is a park not to be missed! You'll arrive in time for lunch at Kibo tented camp, located just outside the park, then late afternoon you'll head out into Amboseli for a game drive to explore the park, after which you'll return to Kibo for dinner and an evening relaxing. Kibo is a great value camp, each tent has a comfy bed and en suite shower and toilet and meals are buffet style. The camp has a large dining area, bar, swimming pool to cool off, a small art gallery and souvenir shop and in the evening you'll be treated to a traditional Masai dance!. Overnight and dinner to the camp
Day 2-3: Amboseli- Tsavo
Wake up early to see the sunrise over the imposing Kilimanjaro, then after breakfast you’ll continue your safari onto Tsavo West, which is about a 2-hour drive. The drive to Tsavo is mostly through wilderness and you will pass by some interesting lava flows on the way. You’ll be staying at the stunning Serena Kilaguni or similar situated inside the park; which is a game-viewing lodge over-looking its own watering hole that can have daily visits from elephants and many other plains mammals.
You’ll arrive in time for lunch, then you’ll be taken on a late afternoon game drive and a visit to the Mzima Springs where you may see hippos and Nile crocodiles and many different bird species. You’ll return to Kilaguni for dinner and spend your evening relaxing and watching the wildlife arrive at the watering hole overlooked by the lodge’s restaurant. You can spend the next day taking game drives at your leisure, enjoying the lodges’ facilities or spend the whole day exploring the park with a picnic lunch.
Day 4-5: Tsavo-Nairobi
After breakfast take a game drive through Tsavo West where it’s possible to see any of the Big Five and maybe take a stop at the Roaring Rocks viewpoint for a stunning view of the wonderful Tsavo landscape. Leave the park early afternoon and head back to Nairobi for dinner at the Wildebeest Eco Camp. The camp is located just on the outskirts of Nairobi in Karen. The camp itself has a mix of dorm style tents, luxury style en-suite tents and also some new en-suite cottages. There is a small pool, restaurant and games room and it’s all set in a very attractive site with lots of trees and bird-life.
Spend the next day sightseeing in Nairobi visiting the David Sheldrick elephant sanctuary in the morning and heading to either the Karen Blixen Museum or the Giraffe Centre in the afternoon, all within easy reach of the camp, alternatively you could head over to the Nairobi National Park and take a nature walk then return to camp for dinner.
Day 6: Nairobi- Lake Naivasha
After a leisurely breakfast, leave camp for a game drive then head to the eastern Rift Valley escarpment for Lake Naivasha, where you’ll arrive in time for lunch. Sopa is positioned by the lake and has beautiful grounds with huge cactus and many acacia trees and there is often wildlife wandering around such as bushbuck, zebra and giraffe and in the evening you may also see hippos grazing on the lawns. The main building has an interior garden, fireplaces and low comfy leather sofas. The rooms themselves are spacious, Swahili style chalets either with a balcony or a glass fronted lounge area for relaxing and wildlife viewing. After lunch you’ll take a boat safari across the lake where you may see hippos and many species of birds including fish eagles and pelicans and sometimes flamingoes. Then retire to the lodge for the evening where you can take a swim, have dinner and watch the hippos come up from the Lake to graze in Sopa’s grounds.
Day 7-9: Naivasha- Masai Mara
After an early breakfast, you'll leave Naivasha and travel to the open grassland of the Masai Mara (4.5 hours), rich in biodiversity and home to a large variety of bird species and wildlife and offers great game viewing and bird watching opportunities. You'll arrive in time for lunch at Basecamp, a small-tented camp with just 12 tents located on the banks of the Talek river. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with a solar heated hot water shower and a private terrace area overlooking the river. The camp has an eco-friendly policy, the camp is fully powered by a solar bank and also supports local communities. After lunch you'll head out for a game drive in the reserve where you will have the opportunity to see big cats and all the Big Five. The next day you can either head out on early morning and late afternoon game drives with lunch in camp or you can head out on a full day game drive with a picnic lunch.
Day 10: Masai Mara- Nairobi
After breakfast and an early morning game drive, you will head back to Nairobi arriving later in the day with drop off at your hotel or airport to connect with your flight.
